In her handwritten book, Evelyn writes about the revolt of the Haitian people against their President in 1985 and all the turmoil that followed. She writes about all the priests being thrown in jail for speaking out against the President from the pulpit and how "a silence" had fallen over the land. She goes into much detail about the dangers during this time including burning and looting during the day and gunfire at night. She remembers not being afraid until one night at 2 a.m. when there was heavy gun fire very close to her house. She wrote the following, "My first reaction caused me to sit straight up in bed, then my first thought was, ‘Stupid…you lie down instead of sitting up.’ My very next thought recalled the scripture, ‘Be still and know that I am God,’ and it calmed me."
If you have watched the news or browsed Facebook, you know that our world is a mess! People are no longer lukewarm about God, they have turned their backs on Him and are following their own lusts! In this time of turmoil, we need to remember Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" Like Evelyn, we too can be calmed by God's word in this time of turmoil.

Altagrace and Evelyn with a Haitian lady that was over 100 years old. This was one of the last trips Evelyn was able to take to Haiti and she was still going strong.
