And so It Begins...

In 1985, Evelyn Boyd, attended a ladies dinner at Abilene Christian University (ACU) where the speaker gave a beautiful lesson titled "The Potter and Vessel". That night after careful self examination she discovered that she was living a "comfortable religion," and only doing the things that she was comfortable with, not what God required of her. She said, "I learned in presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice to the Lord we have to make some fearsome decisions!"

Evelyn made some fearsome decisions in the following months committing herself to Haiti and to what God required of her.  Pictured above are just a few of her many, many notebooks filled with detailed information about Haiti including personal thoughts, daily details of life in Haiti, Bible study notes, speaking notes, scripture, and a hand written book.  These are priceless reminders and a small glimpse into her life and work in Haiti over the past 30 years.

By Faith… is the title of this blog because it is only through God that all things are possible. In her handwritten book, Evelyn talks about the Christians that came with a mind to serve Haiti and improve the life of the Haitians despite the political demonstrations and dangers that faced them.  She poses the following question about faith, one that I feel describes the work we continue in Haiti today:
"Faith - How could it be a way of faith if one could see from the beginning to the end before undertaking a task? These brethren came and let God do something through them for the Church in Haiti.  Our lives can be a channel or a clog!

Thirty years later, by faith, her children and grandchildren are continuing the Lord's work started so long ago by our beloved Granny, Evelyn Boyd.  This blog will be our "notebooks" as we continue the journey in Haiti.  We will post trip reports, the needs of the Haitians, struggles, words of thanksgiving for our generous donors, and words of encouragement from Evelyn's notebooks.  I am currently typing up her hand written book and will leave you with some words of encouragement from Evelyn,

"When we realize we need the Lord, HE changes us.  To be a person for others has nothing  to do with convenience. It is the giving of one's self.  It  means commitment to Christ.  It has to do with decision, either to give or not to give.  Love is away of life, an attitude.  Love gives something sweet when we face difficulties.
There is tremendous power within the Christian BUT it will not be used much for the Lord until we are motivated from within."

Blessings,
